Dining out on Eat Street
Food markets offer visitors great insights into a city and its culture. From time to time we’ll be posting about our favourite market visits.
We recently visited Eat Street Markets in Brisbane, Australia, where a mini-township of converted shipping containers comes alive a couple nights a week.
On approach there’s a feeling of a fairground or circus as the event is housed on a large area of vacant riverfront land. The hubbub of music and long queues add to the excitement on Friday and Saturday evenings with thousands of hungry diners filling the site.
An array of street food is on offer from Peruvian and Japanese to Greek and Thai. Good food and entertainment are the magic ingredients and the busiest stalls have pizzaz – like dancing staff in costume as they prepare food. Live music, wine tastings and cooking demonstrations add further appeal.
Make a night of it when next in Brisbane.
Every Friday (4pm – 10pm), Saturday (4pm – 10pm) and Sunday (10am – 3pm)
